Hip Replacement (Total Hip Arthroplasty )

Arthritis of the hip (loss of the joint space with contact of the femoral head and acetabulum- Figure 1)   can be disabling with pain which limits mobility, function, sleep and the ability to perform recreational activities. Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) is a proven technique for successfully treating this condition.

The hip is a ball and socket joint and during the procedure both of these are replaced. Several options exist for replacing either side of the hip joint and I have been trained in these techniques in some of the most respected and prestigious institutions in the world (The University Of British Columbia, Vancouver and The Exeter Hip Unit).
